Affordable Housing - New Construction

The Polk County Board of Supervisors has initiated many affordable housing programs in the metro area. As a part of the overall effort, Polk County plans to construct single-family homes within the Des Moines area to assist families in need and to prevent homelessness. This Project includes the proposed construction of twenty-two (22) single-family homes on vacant lots owned by Polk County. The Housing Services Division has developed plans and specifications for these homes.

Polk County is looking for well qualified homebuilders to build these homes. It is anticipated that on February 12, 2025, the Procurement Division will release bid documents for Phase 1 to interested bidders for two (2) groups of homes for a total of seven (7) to be built this Spring. If you are interested in receiving these bid documents, please visit https://www.bidnetdirect.com/iowa/polkcounty to register. To register at no cost, select “Limited Access”. Please enter 90954 under the NIGP CATEGORY selection to be notified of the bid release.

Polk County is not able to share plans and specifications with interested bidders prior to the release date of February 12, 2025. But, if you would have any general questions about the program, please contact Dave Williamson at dave.williamson@polkcountyiowa.gov

Furthermore, the Housing Services Division offers many programs designed to assist lower-income households with housing repairs, weatherization measures, aging in place for elderly households and healthy homes projects. Polk County is looking for interested contractors to participate in these programs. If you would to learn more information about any of our programs and the opportunities for contractors to become involved, please contact Dave Williamson at the email address listed above.
