The Polk County Treasurer holds a delinquent tax sale each year. Tax Certificates of properties not sold at the auction are sent to our Development Services Division to be acquired. Polk County owned Tax Deed parcels are maintained and disposed of according to legal requirements and local policy. The Division disposes of the property through written proposals that meet fair market value.

If a property has a structure, staff will determine if it can be rehabilitated. If it can, local non-profit agencies will be requested to submit proposals to complete the work and reuse the property for low income families. If the structure cannot be feasibly rehabilitated, it will be demolished and the property sold according to policy.

Development Services Division is also responsible for disposing of parcels the County has determined to be excess property.

Persons or organizations interested in purchasing Tax Deed or excess property owned by the County should call 286-3705.
