The Weed Commission's primary function is to coordinate all operations pertaining to the control and eradication of weeds in a responsive manner that successfully addresses the applied laws of the State of Iowa and the citizens of Polk County.
Pursuant to Chapter 317 and 331.384, Code of Iowa, the Polk County Weed Commission is responsible for insuring that each owner and each person in possession or control of any lands in Polk County, shall cut or otherwise destroy all weeds or grass which constitutes health, safety, or fire hazard. Growth of weeds or grass higher than 12 inches above the ground is a health, safety, or fire hazard.
The 2017 Weed Mowing Season will begin April 24, 2017. There will be no action to any complaint calls or emails until that date.
