Polk County Criminal Courts Open to Public

DES MOINES, Iowa – March 18, 2019 — As of Monday, March 18 the newly renovated Polk County Criminal Courthouse at 110 6th Avenue in downtown Des Moines was open to the public. The new building houses 10 criminal courtrooms that serve only adult criminal cases, as well as probation, criminal clerk of court and the Polk County Sheriff Identification division. Children and family court is located at the Polk County Justice Center.
The completion of the Polk County Criminal Courts is part of a multi-phase project that will centralize all of the court functions in Polk County and improve safety for visitors and employees. The remaining phase includes complete renovation and restoration of the Historic Courthouse.
A ribbon-cutting for the Polk County Criminal Courts is scheduled for 2:00 on April 29.
