  • Renewal - How do I store my vehicle(s)?

    You must surrender your license plates and registration for each vehicle to the Treasurer on or before the last day of the month following the owner’s registration renewal month.  You can re-register your vehicle at any time in the future with the payment of the full annual tax due at that time.  You CANNOT store any delinquent plate or first ½ truck, truck tractor or farm special plate.

  • Renewal - What are my options to renew my vehicle(s)?

    First, you need to renew in the county in which you live, then;

    You may renew on line at www.iowataxandtags.gov if you have received a renewal notice with a PIN.

    You may renew by mail.

    You may renew by phone using Master Card, Discover, or Visa. If paying by credit card, a non-refundable service delivery fee will be applied to your total.

    You may renew in person (Monday thru Friday – 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) by visiting: Polk County Treasurer, Polk County Administration Building, 111 Court Ave, Room 154, Des Moines, IA 50309-2298. Payments in person may be made by cash, check, echeck, cashiers’ check, money order, Discover, MasterCard, Visa credit cards, or DWOLLA. If paying by credit card, a non-refundable service delivery fee will be applied to your total.
