On Tuesday, the Polk County Board of Supervisors issued a proclamation in support of the State of Israel in their justified response to the terrorist attacks of October 7th by Hamas. The board action reflects Polk County’s support of Israel and the three thousand members of the Jewish community that call Polk County and Central Iowa home.

In addition, the board has directed that the exterior of the historic Polk County Courthouse in downtown Des Moines be lit in blue and white, the colors of the Israeli flag. Polk County Board Chair Tom Hockensmith says, “These efforts serve as a reminder to Polk County residents that the atrocities brought on by the terrorist group, Hamas, have an impact to our community and we stand with Israel and local residents who are directly affected.”
