Polk County Supervisors Recognized by Des Moines International Airport

On Tuesday, Des Moines International Airport Executive Director Kevin Foley presented Polk County Supervisors with a plaque recognizing the board as terminal project champions. Foley thanked the board for taking the initiative to assist with funding by placing a bond referendum on the November 2023 ballot. Polk voters overwhelmingly passed the referendum authorizing $350 million toward the Constuction costs of the new terminal.

Polk County Board Chair  Angela Connolly said, "I think the citizens spoke loud and clear. 80% is unbelievable for a referendum. We are excited to have this project underway." Polk County Administrator John Norris also made note that an RFP for credentials for bonding will go out on Tuesday so funding can be allocated in the coming weeks. The use of Polk County's bond will save the terminal project more than $75 million in interest fees.
