Polk County To Offer Additional Drive-Through COVID-19 Testing

Polk County to offer testing as COVID-19 cases continue to surge nationwide

Des Moines, IA- Beginning Monday January 17, 2022, Polk County in partnership with WellHealth Works, will begin offering drive-through COVID-19 testing clinics at the first, of what will be multiple locations in Polk County. Currently, Polk County and Polk County Health Department are in the process of mobilizing additional testing sites which will help alleviate the testing surge that is overwhelming hospitals, clinics and pharmacies. The testing sites will be open 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM every day (including weekends). Registration will take place on-site.

The first location available will open on Monday January 17, 2022 at Polk County Riverplace (2309 Euclid Ave., Des Moines/ West Parking Lot).

Polk County Board of Supervisors Chair Angela Connolly says, “Testing is a critical component in helping to slow the current surge of COVID-19 and Polk County is working to help fill the void in the availability of COVID testing. Whether it is a need to show proof of a negative test to an employer or if someone was exposed or has developed mild symptoms, there is a large demand for testing. Testing at clinics should be reserved for those who need medical attention, we hope that the addition of several drive-through locations will help alleviate some of the pressure on our hospitals and clinics.”

Those who choose to use the drive-through clinics will be asked to bring insurance and are required to show ID. There will be no cost for symptomatic or exposed individuals. PCR test results will be sent directly to individuals within 48 hours either by phone, e-mail or text message. Rapid tests are also available at this location.

-Bring Insurance (if applicable) and ID for proof of residency.

-No cost for symptomatic or exposed individuals

-PCR test results sent directly to individuals within 48 hours

-Rapid tests available

-No appointment necessary

Additional drive-through sites will be available soon. Expect further information about locations. The public is asked to only seek testing at hospitals or clinics if they are in need of medical attention. If you are testing due to exposures, surveillance, travel and mild symptoms should be done at one of the drive-through sites. There are a variety of companies offering drive-through testing so please check www.polkcountyiowa.gov/health for an up to date list and details for each site.
