About Us

Polk County Juvenile Detention

The Polk County Juvenile Detention Center provides a secure setting for youth age 11 through 17 while their cases are being processed through the court system and decisions are made as to their disposition. Youth are placed in the Detention Center by order of Juvenile Court. Polk County Juvenile Detention can house 33 youth.

Polk County Centralized Intake Center

The Central Intake Center provides law enforcement officers a single point of entry for youth in need of assessments and services. On a 24-hour basis, staff conduct an initial screening, and make decisions about the placement of youth. Placements may include detention, foster care, or home with appropriate social service referrals.

Parents/Guardians are not permitted to admit their child to Detention by bringing them to the Centralized Intake Center.  If your child has broken the law call 911 for assistance. This does not mean that your child will be detained. The Central Intake Officer with Juvenile Court Services will review all pertinent information and make a determination in the best interests of the youth and their family.

If you have been notified by law enforcement that your child was brought to the Centralized Intake Center, you may contact staff at 515-286-3350.

Due to COVID-19, visits have been temporarily suspended. Parents/guardians may contact the Program Administrator, Dan Larson at (515) 286-2100 to arrange for a virtual visit.
