Divisions
The Administration Division provides a variety of management and support services for the entire Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office provides public safety dispatching services to a number of communities and agencies.
Supports community interaction and support through public outreach programs.
Court Services Division consists of three areas:Civil Process is responsible for receiving, processing and serving civil and criminal court orders and legal documents.
Courthouse Security provides law enforcement functions within the Polk County Courthouse and River Point Court Annex building and Court Staging.
The Polk County Jail is a 325,000 square-feet facility that sits on 40 acres of land just north of Des Moines. The facility has 1,500 beds and the ability to expand capacity an additional 1,000 beds to handle the projected increase of Polk County's inmate population through at least 2030.
The Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement services throughout Polk County. The Sheriff's Office is the responsible agency for unincorporated Polk County, the cities of Alleman, Bondurant, Elkhart, Grimes, the U.S Army Corps of Engineers at Saylorville Lake and the Polk County Courthouse.

Citizens have the right to expect the Sheriff's Office to provide law enforcement services that are fair, effective and impartially applied.
Professional Services and Training
The goal of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Professional Services and Training Division is to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities of each officer and deputy to meet the challenges of contemporary policing and corrections.
