Clean Sweep

New Clean Sweep 2024, Clean Sweep is changing to a drop off program. 

Clean Sweep will be Saturday July 27 from 8 am to 4 pm in unincorporated neighborhoods of Lovington, Saylor, Norwoodville, Capital Heights, Babbitt, and Avon Lake. 

*** An additional drop off site will be Polk County Public Works facility at 5885 NE 14th Street ***

There will be a designated centralized locations in each neighborhood (two is Saylor) where residents can bring their trash and debris and load it into an open roll off container. (See locations in copy of flyer below) Public Works staff will be onsite to check ID's, check loads, and direct traffic at each of the locations. 

  • User Requirements
    • Proof of residency is required. Photo ID or current utility bill.
    • Residents of unincorporated Polk County only.
    • NO commercial haulers. Commercial haulers MUST use landfill.
  • Vehicle Requirements
    • Cars, pickups and small trailers (12’ maximum).
    • Trailers must be single axle, no longer than 12', no wider than 6'6", with sides no higher than 4' high. (no dump box trailers of any size.)
  • Unloading Procedures
    • Ask where to unload.
    • Plan to unload your own vehicle within 15 minutes.
    • Place all items in dumpsters as directed.
    • Clean up your own mess.
  • Scavenging/Salvaging is NOT permitted at any time.
  • No illegal dumping. No putting trash or debris in ditches or roadways. This will be considered illegal dumping and the property owner will be responsible for any clean up.

Household Hazardous Waste – Metro Hazardous Waste Drop Off, 1105 Prairie Drive SW, Bondurant, Tuesday – Friday 1 - 5 PM, First and Third Saturday of Every Month 8 AM - Noon

Yard waste, Tree Limbs and Brush for composting

  • Metro Park East Landfill, 12181 NE University Ave, Mitchellville, Monday-Friday 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Saturday 7 AM - 2 PM
  • Metro Park West Landfill, 2499 337th St, Perry, Monday-Friday 8 AM - 4 PM, First Saturday of Every Month 9 AM - Noon
