Seeking public input on updates to Riverwalk Dog Park, new parking lot.

Published 2/17/2023 9:21:18 AM

The Lauridsen Skatepark Parking Lot project is a joint effort between City of Des Moines and Polk County Conservation. The goal is to redesign the area to accommodate a surface parking lot that will serve the skatepark, Riverwalk Dog Park, and future Central Place Levee Trail.

The proposed plan calls for a land swap that will shift the dog park to the north with no net loss of space of the existing dog park. A parking lot will then be constructed to accommodate approximately 100 parking spaces. The lot will include, lighting, landscaping, storm water management devices such as porous pavers and bio-retention cells, public art, and site furnishings.

Polk County Conservation is eager to receive and incorporate feedback from area property owners, dog park users, skatepark users, and members of the broader public. Please join county representatives at a public meeting to hear about the initial plans and offer your ideas.
