Further Forensic Investigation

If it is determined that further forensic examination is necessary, the Medicolegal Death Investigator will provide the decedent’s next of kin with contact information for our office and an informational brochure.

The decedent will be transported to the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.

Once the examination has been completed, the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office will contact the funeral home chosen by the next of kin and provide them with the information needed.  

The funeral home will come to the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office and take the decedent into their care.
