What Happens to Property and Clothing?

The Medicolegal Death Investigator will make a detailed inventory of all property and clothing. Clothing and property are normally released to the funeral home. 

Driver’s licenses and Social Security cards are retained in order to prevent identity theft.

In cases where there is an active law enforcement investigation, the clothing and property may be retained by the investigating agency.
