Release to Funeral Home

If further forensic examination is not indicated, the decedent may be released to the funeral home of the family's choice.  The Polk County Medical Examiner's Office cannot recommend specific funeral homes or cremation services.  

When a funeral home has been chosen by the family, the Medicolegal Death Investigator will contact the funeral home and provide them with the information needed by the funeral home to begin their process.

The funeral home will come to the scene and take the decedent into their care.
