Professional Services and Training

The goal of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Professional Services and Training Division is to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities of each officer and deputy to meet the challenges of contemporary policing and corrections. To achieve that goal a comprehensive training program is provided to officers and deputies throughout their careers. From the first day on the job through retirement, officers and deputies receive continuous training in law, human relations, tactics, physical training, and investigative techniques. The Sheriff’s Office provides comprehensive training to ensure our citizens are provided with quality services while being treated with dignity and respect. In addition, the proficiency of civilian members of the Sheriff’s Office is enhanced through an ongoing training program.

The Professional Services and Training Division oversees the training for over 500 Sheriff’s Office employees.  Training includes; orientation training, in-service training, jail schools, on-line training, firearms training, qualifications and specialized schools.  The Professional Services and Training Division maintains employees’ training records, certification standards and facilitates the training and evaluation program for new officers and deputies.
