Snowmobiles

New and/or transferred recreational vehicles are registered with the Polk County Recorder. Snowmobile registrations expire on December 31st of each year. Snowmobiles registered since January 1998 must have a title.

Registrations

The registration fee is $17.75, valid January 1st thru December 31st annually. Transfers not made within 30 days from the sale date will be charged a $5.00 penalty in addition to the normal fees.

Transfers need bill of sale, title if (applicable)  and registration all signed by seller.

Registration Fee: $18.50
Duplicate Fee: $8.50

*Add $1.00 for each transaction for Processing fee (New Fee as of July 1st, 2023 will be $2.00)

BILL OF SALE REQUIRED FOR ALL TRANSFERS

**Sales of all recreational vehicles are subject to the 6% State sales tax (plus any local option taxes). This applies to sales by individuals and dealers.**

Effective July 1, 2012, ALL snowmobilers on public lands, ice and designated areas will be required to have and display a NEW IDNR USER PERMIT in addition to their registration decal. OHV operators must have financial liability coverage and carry a PROOF OF INSURANCE card. There are exceptions, including farm use;
